Our Approach

Modern Wisdom from Ancient Times

Our philosophical methods and practices come from a variety of sources. From Ancient Greek Philosophy to American Pragmatism and Process Philosophy, from Taoism to Chan to Zen, to modern cognitive science, neuroscience, biology, and the arts, including poetry, literature, music, painting, and film.

What we do is a living practice and a process that leads one to a life lived well and oriented to achieve what the Greeks called eudaimonia, a lasting state of well-being and flourishing.

As we get to know you, we will work with you through different types of dialogues as well as other methods and practices to meet your specific needs, strengths, and interests.

You don’t need to know any philosophy and won’t be given philosophy books to read. If you can hold a conversation, you have all the expertise you need to benefit from Useful Frames’ methods.

Transformative Dialogues

In our practice, we draw upon a wide range of philosophies and disciplines depending on your specific situation and adapt as needed through out our time together. There is no one method or one-size-fits-all practice or approach.

You will never be asked to change any of your beliefs. We aren’t selling any particular philosophy to you and we are not trying to convince you of anything. Our dialogues together guide you to getting clarity on your own thinking on what matters most to you.

We don’t use big words that are hard to understand and our clients don’t need to know anything about philosophy, the arts, or sciences to reap the benefits of transformative dialogues.

Our modern approach is informed by a deep respect and appreciation for the living wisdom of ancient philosophies. Those philosophies were practice-based and focused on the practicalities of how to live a good life.
